Full-Time | 37.5 hours/week | £27,000-£29,000 per annum (subject to experience and review)

Fixed Term: 1st July 2025 - 30th June 2028 (Potential for extension based on funding)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and driven Rugby Development Officer to lead the delivery of rugby programmes across Argyll and Bute. Working collaboratively with Scottish Rugby and constituent clubs, this role is focused on strengthening rugby infrastructure through effective club development planning, player and volunteer support, and sustained school-to-club links. The successful candidate will champion inclusive and accessible rugby experiences for players of all ages across the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support constituent clubs in the development, implementation and review of their Club Development Plans in line with Scottish Rugby's strategic framework.
  • Lead on player transition and retention strategies, including movement from school to club, youth to adult, and return to play pathways.
  • Design and implement Coach and Volunteer CPD programmes to upskill and retain the region's workforce.
  • Manage and support Modern Apprentices and sessional coaches to ensure consistent and high-quality rugby delivery.
  • Coordinate and deliver rugby programmes in schools across Argyll and Bute in collaboration with Active Schools.
  • Increase play opportunities and ensure inclusive access to rugby within primary and secondary schools.
  • Work closely with local rugby clubs, schools, Active Schools teams, and community partners to build and sustain participation.
  • Organise and deliver holiday camps, festivals, and regional rugby development events.
  • Promote Argyll and Bute as a thriving rugby region and raise the profile of constituent clubs.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience in sports development and/or rugby coaching across multiple age groups.
  • Strong understanding of rugby structures, particularly grassroots and community-based environments.
  • Ability to lead development initiatives and support long-term planning within volunteer-led clubs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational, time management and planning abilities.
  • Experience supporting or managing staff/volunteers, such as apprentices or sessional workers.
  • Knowledge of Long-Term Player Development (LTPD) and inclusive participation models.
  • IT proficiency including email, presentations, and data tracking tools.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Rugby Coaching Essentials (UKCC Level 1 or equivalent)
  • Full driving license
  • PVG Scheme membership (or willingness to join)

Desirable:

  • UKCC Level 2 / Aspiring Coach Qualification
  • Sports-related HND or Degree
  • Match Official qualification
  • First Aid in Rugby (FAIR) or equivalent
