Join SEAL Gorbals as a Community Bike Mechanic and help drive positive change in a vibrant Glasgow neighbourhood. Based in our community workshop, you'll provide vital bike repairs and maintenance for locals who depend on cycling, while promoting sustainable transport and wellbeing. More than just mechanics, you'll help build connections, break down transport barriers, and work alongside schools and community groups to make cycling accessible to everyone.

Skills Required

Essential:

  • Experience in bicycle maintenance and repair (minimum 2 years)
  • Knowledge of different bike types including road, mountain, hybrid, and electric bikes
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical issues and explain solutions clearly to customers
  • Strong communication skills and patience when working with diverse community members
  • Physical fitness for handling bikes and standing for extended periods
  • Basic understanding of bike safety standards and regulations
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently

Desirable:

  • Formal qualification in cycle mechanics (Cytech or equivalent), although training would be provided
  • Experience working in community or social enterprise settings
  • First aid certification
  • Understanding of sustainable transport initiatives
  • Previous experience in customer service or community engagement
