Yoga Teacher for Glasgow University's Yoga Club

Responsible to: Glasgow University Yoga Club Committee

Remuneration: Discussed upon application (Contact us with your hourly rate and whether you would be happy with providing a cheaper student rate).

Role Duration: September 2025 - May 2026 (2-week break at Christmas and Easter holidays). Contract renewed annually according to the academic year.

Place of work: Glasgow University Stevenson Gym (Tuesday and Friday), Glasgow University Union (Sunday) and Glasgow University ARC Centre (Thursday).

Hours

1 day weekly per teacher. Flexible but current spaces include:

  • Tuesday - 19:45-20:30 and 20:30-21:15 (Restorative)
  • Thursday- 17:30-18:30
  • Friday- 17:30-18:30 (Vinyasa Preferred)
  • Sunday - 18:30-19:30 (Yin Preferred)

Club Mission

Glasgow University Yoga Club is an inclusive, fun-loving group offering five classes a week with additional exciting workshops, socials and even retreats.

Our teachers all have different styles, giving each class a different feel and flow. Our classes range from Yin to Vinyasa style practise, and we often explore other branches of yoga at our workshops! Our club is open and welcoming to all abilities - whether you're a complete beginner, have followed some YouTube videos or practice regularly to an advanced level, our classes offer fun, creative flows ensuring you leave feeling fully stretched and relaxed.

The aim of the Club shall be to promote the practice of yoga through:

  • Enabling participation at all levels
  • The introduction of yoga to those who have not taken part previously;
  • Offering a range of styles and methods of practice;
  • Upholding, at home and abroad, the good name of the Club and the University;
  • Representing the interests and views of its members;
  • Engaging with other Clubs in membership of the Glasgow University Sports Association (GUSA); and
  • Managing its affairs in accordance with the provisions of the GUSA constitution.

Required Certification

  • Teacher Qualification in Yoga Instructing (200 hour minimum).
  • Experience teaching group classes (1 year minimum preferred).
  • First Aid training preferred.

Required Skills

  • Comprehensive understanding of Yoga practice.
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate and develop beginners.
  • Excellent reliability and punctuality.
  • Have a unique and passionate style/experience/background of yoga to share.

Desirable Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with yoga committee and associated staff.
  • Experience in University/Student yoga.
  • Diversity of experience at a high level across different formats and cultures.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver weekly classes for a class ranging from 10-35 people.
  • Potential to run a retreat with other university yoga teachers.
  • Regularly communicate with yoga committee on availability and cancellations.

Additional Roles

  • Create a welcoming environment.
  • Be a supportive and friendly member of the club who is able to aid or direct members to the appropriate committee members.
  • Opportunities to run workshops or special events.
