Lenzie Rugby Football Club – Development Officer

Purpose

Lenzie Rugby Football Club (the Club) in partnership with the Scottish Rugby Union (SRU) seek to appoint a Development Officer (DO) to work with the Club and local schools to foster and develop youth rugby within the community. This will build on the existing youth rugby set-up already in place at the Club and the strong links with local schools providing rugby coaching within the school curriculum.

The DO will work in partnership with Club coaches, volunteers and local schools to meet the goals and objectives set by the Club committee and the SRU. The DO will report to the Club’s Director of Youth Rugby. 

Working hours: 35 hrs per week (Flexible working hours to include evenings and weekends).

Annual Salary: £27 – 29k per annum  (Depending on skills and experience)

Annual holiday:  Will align with schools’ teaching schedule minus three weeks for rugby camps during school holidays (Autumn, Spring and Summer terms)

Key Objectives:

  • Work with the club and schools to ensure an inclusive, positive and enjoyable experience for all youth players
  • Provide a positive role model for players and volunteers
  • Increase participation in rugby at all youth levels for both boys and girls in line with the Club Development Plan for full male and female youth pathways
  • Develop and improve skills and performance across all youth age grades
  • Create a link between schools and the Club to facilitate a player pathway for talented players
  • Develop youth players to be ready for age grade representative rugby
  • Liaise with the club coaches at senior level to assist with player retention and a positive transition to senior rugby.
  • Work with the Club’s Director of Youth Rugby to coordinate key club initiatives and support the design and delivery of the club’s development plan
  • Work with the Club to identify income generation opportunities; camps, membership schemes, etc.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with club coaches, schools, volunteers and SRU to deliver rugby programmes
  • Coordinate and develop rugby programmes for boys and girls in Club and secondary school settings, Including liaison with Active Schools programme
  • Creating, maintaining and enhancing close links with local schools through teacher CPD/support and school workforce development
  • Assist in the transition of P7 boys and girls into the senior school rugby environment
  • Increasing participation in rugby for children and youths
  • Promote the values of the SRU within the schools and Club environments
  • Work closely with SRU Regional Management to ensure alignment with the SRU’s strategic objectives
  • Keep accurate records of all work carried out in schools and Club through SR’s DO reporting process within SCRUMS
  • Monitor and report progress of KPI objectives agreed with SRU and the Club
  • Support the delivery of the SRU coach education programmes, and implement education and training opportunities for Club coaching volunteers, while reviewing the quality assurance of club coaching workforce
  • Lead the development of youth team referees
  • Assist in the planning of youth and mini fixtures throughout the season
  • Coordinate and deliver rugby camps during school holidays (Autumn, Spring and Summer)


Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Aspiring Coaching Programme (UKCC Level 2 or above)
  • Qualified to referee rugby matches S1 and above
  • Previous coaching experience with youth age grades
  • Full driving license with access to a car
  • First Aid in Rugby Certificate or similar qualification
  • Computer literate – Word and Excel
  • Good organizational and communications skills
  • Proactive attitude
  • Strong leadership qualities
