The Scottish Youth FA (SYFA) is the national governing body responsible for regulating and overseeing grassroots football across Scotland.

The SYFA is seeking to expand its Board membership for the 2025/26 season. The current Directors are committed to pursuing ambitious goals that will drive continued improvement across the organisation and enhance its impact on the development of youth football in Scotland.

To achieve our aims, we are particularly interested in individuals who have experience in the following areas:

  • Child Wellbeing & Protection
  • Commercial/Marketing
  • Legal

Key responsibilities include:

  • Set and maintain the vision, mission and values of the organisation
  • Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organisation, fully engaging in identifying and securing the resources and partnerships necessary for the organisation to advance its mission
  • Develop direction, strategy and planning
  • Contribute to fair, consistent and transparent decision-making on behalf of the Board
  • Maintain and improve policies and procedures to govern organisational activity

Person specification

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Relevant qualification e.g. qualified lawyer
  • Proven ability to work constructively with a team
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of recreational youth football in Scotland, or a willingness to learn
  • Awareness and understanding of Children’s Wellbeing in Scottish Football policies, procedures and safeguards
  • Knowledge of ‘good working practice’ and procedures, preferably in children’s sports
  • Ability to lead projects and/or working groups

Competencies

  • Shows respect, integrity, professionalism and sensitivity in the treatment of others
  • Passionate about grassroots football and the power of sport to change and improve the lives of children and young people
  • Appreciates the necessity for confidentiality

Time requirements

  • Attendance and active participation at Board meetings
  • •Attendance at our annual AGM
  • Attendance at our annual Cup Finals weekend

Your availability, active participation in meetings, and commitment to the SYFA will be essential as it undergoes a significant period of strategic review, transformation and development. While the time commitment should not be underestimated, it presents a meaningful opportunity to contribute to shaping the largest youth football organisation in Scotland and to help build a Youth FA that is equipped to deliver for the future.
