STS is seeking an organised, enthusiastic and people-focused Pathway Coordinator to support the delivery of our expanding Performance Pathway.
STS is developing a more structured and connected pathway to help athletes across Scottish shooting access appropriate opportunities and progress through the sport. Our ambition is:
“To support athletes to reach their full potential through a structured, inclusive performance system, fostering personal development, technical expertise, and a culture of excellence across all levels of Scottish shooting.”
Supported by sportscotland Pathway Investment, this new role will have particular responsibility for coordinating the STS Development Programme and helping athletes navigate the pathway from club and athlete-development environments into the Development Programme and, where appropriate, towards the STS Performance Programme.
The precise hours, working pattern and role priorities will be agreed with the successful candidate, taking account of their experience and availability and the needs of the role.
Who Are Scottish Target Shooting?
Scottish Target Shooting (STS) is a unified governing body created in 2016 to help develop the sport of target shooting in Scotland. As a relatively new governing body, we are looking to have a positive impact on clubs and help individuals of all abilities, across all the various disciplines of the sport. We are going through the process of developing our next strategic plan and pathways will feature heavily so this is an exciting time to join the team and help shape this work and have a direct and immediate impact as we build towards the 2030 Commonwealth Games and beyond.
What Will Be My Role and Responsibilities?
Reporting to the Performance & Pathways Manager, the Pathway Coordinator will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of the STS Development Programme. Initially, this will form the main focus of the role, supporting the establishment and effective delivery of new Development Squad provision across the shooting disciplines.
Working with athletes, parents, coaches, Association Management Groups, clubs and Regional Club Development posts, the postholder will help ensure that Development Programme activity is well organised, effectively communicated and connected to the wider athlete pathway.
An important part of the role will be strengthening connections between different pathway environments: helping athletes understand the opportunities available to them, supporting transitions into Development provision, and working with the Performance & Pathways Manager to ensure a joined-up transition for athletes progressing towards the Performance Programme.
As the Development Programme becomes established, the role is expected to evolve alongside the wider STS Performance Pathway. This may include coordinating activity across other areas of the pathway, strengthening connections between different stages and environments, supporting athlete transitions, and helping to coordinate new or expanded provision in response to identified needs.
This is a coordination rather than technical coaching role, and applicants do not need to have a background in target shooting.
As part of the role, you will be asked to drive the following areas (supported by STS staff, volunteers and directors):
Coordinate the day-to-day delivery and administration of the STS Development Programme, including squad activity, training calendars, venues and associated logistics.
Act as a key point of contact for Development Programme athletes, parents/guardians, coaches and other relevant stakeholders.
Coordinate with Development Coaches to support the effective planning and delivery of squad activity.
Support athlete application, selection, onboarding and review processes, ensuring athletes receive clear and timely information.
Maintain links with clubs, Regional Club Development posts, coaches, Association Management Groups and other providers of athlete-development opportunities.
Help athletes and coaches understand the STS Performance Pathway and the opportunities and progression routes available within it.
Support athletes transitioning from Stage 1 and Stage 2 environments into the STS Development Programme.
Work with the Performance & Pathways Manager and relevant coaches to support effective transitions from the Development Programme into the STS Performance Programme.
Maintain accurate athlete and programme records and support the monitoring of participation, retention, progression and athlete experience.
Gather feedback and information to help STS identify gaps, barriers and opportunities within the pathway.
Support the evaluation and ongoing improvement of Development Programme activity.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of pathway information, resources and consistent processes.
Work collaboratively with the wider STS team and external partners where appropriate.
Ensure activity is coordinated in accordance with STS policies and expectations relating to safeguarding, athlete welfare, equality and inclusion
