Purpose of the Role:
The Chairperson provides strategic leadership to Tayside Dynamos Powerchair Football Club SCIO, ensuring that the charity is effectively governed, operates in accordance with its Constitution, and delivers its charitable objectives. The Chairperson leads the Board of Trustees, promotes effective decision-making, and represents the organisation in a professional and positive manner.
Primary Duties
Ensure the charitable objectives of Tayside Dynamos Powerchair Football Club SCIO are upheld in accordance with the Club Constitution.
Provide leadership to the Board of Trustees, ensuring meetings are conducted effectively, inclusively and in accordance with good governance principles.
Support the implementation and regular review of the Club's policies, procedures and governance documents.
Ensure the Club operates within the provisions of its Constitution and complies with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
Work closely with fellow Trustees to oversee the strategic direction, sustainability and long-term development of the Club.
Liaise with Trustees to ensure statutory reporting requirements, including those to the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR), are completed within required timescales.
Act as the principal ambassador for the Club, promoting its aims, values and activities with members, partners, stakeholders and the wider community.
Promote and maintain a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for all members, volunteers and visitors.
Work collaboratively with the Secretary, Treasurer and other Trustees, providing support and leadership where required.
Encourage effective communication between the Board, members, volunteers and external organisations.
Ensure Board decisions are implemented and monitored appropriately.
Foster a culture of teamwork, integrity, accountability and continuous improvement across the organisation.
Trustee Responsibilities:
In addition to the statutory duties of a Trustee, the Chairperson should use their experience, skills and knowledge to help the Board make informed, balanced and effective decisions. This may include:
Leading Board discussions and ensuring all Trustees have the opportunity to contribute.
Focusing the Board on strategic priorities and key governance issues.
Supporting and mentoring fellow Trustees where appropriate.
Providing leadership during periods of change or organisational development.
Representing the interests of the charity at external meetings and events.
Additional Duties:
Ensuring the organisation regularly evaluates its performance and responds appropriately to emerging opportunities and challenges.
Safeguarding the reputation, values and objectives of the organisation.
Promoting effective governance and the efficient administration of the charity.
Encouraging positive relationships with members, volunteers, partner organisations and external stakeholders.
Supporting the recruitment, induction and development of Trustees and volunteers where appropriate.
Person Specification:
Previous experience of serving on a Board or committee is desirable.
Demonstrable leadership, communication and organisational skills.
The ability to think strategically while supporting day-to-day governance where required.
Sound, independent judgement and decision-making ability.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
The ability to work confidentially and with discretion.
A willingness to lead discussions, build consensus and make balanced decisions.
An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of charity trustees.
The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and build positive working relationships.
