Join the Board of Scottish Swimming

Scottish Swimming is looking for two dynamic and committed individuals to join its Board of Directors and help shape the future of aquatic sport in Scotland.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key leadership role within a high-performing organisation. As a Board Director, you will provide strategic insight, support and constructive challenge to ensure the successful delivery of our Corporate Plan and long-term sustainability.

We are seeking individuals with a passion for sport, strong leadership skills, and the ability to bring fresh thinking, experience and perspective to the Board.

The role requires attendance at approximately six Board meetings per year (typically in Stirling), the AGM in September, and occasional additional meetings or events.

If you are motivated to make a positive impact and help drive Scottish Swimming forward, we would love to hear from you.

Having carried out a full “Skills Gap Analysis” of the current Board profile, Scottish Swimming is looking for two candidates.

Stakeholder Engagement / Governance

We are seeking an experienced strategic leader to join our Board, bringing strong governance expertise, senior stakeholder influence including public affairs experience, and a commitment to delivering positive outcomes for our communities.

A significant amount of progress has been made in securing political support for investment in School Swimming, alongside increasing national focus on facilities, pool availability and the need to avert closures. As we continue this work, including our ambition to help shape a Government-led Taskforce, we would particularly welcome candidates with experience or understanding of Facilities Management and/or Local Authorities, whose insight and expertise could add significant value.

  • Board-level leadership and governance experience, with strong strategic planning and organisational development expertise.

  • Proven ability and experience influencing and engaging senior stakeholders, including government and national/international partners, with strength in communications and reputation management.

  • Insight-driven and community-focused, using data and sector knowledge to support the sustainability of facilities, environmental objectives and positive national outcomes.

Athlete Development / High Performance Environments

We are seeking an experienced strategic leader to join our Board, bringing insight into athlete development and high-performance environments, a strong understanding of the full pathway from Learn to Swim to elite performance, and the confidence to champion the athlete voice at Board level.

Key areas of experience include:

  • Lived experience of athlete development and high-performance environments, with insight into quality coaching, performance centres and clean sport (UKAD).

    • A strong understanding of the full pathway, from Learn to Swim through to elite performance.

    • The confidence and credibility to champion the athlete voice at Board level, ensuring athlete perspectives shape strategic decisions.

Application Process

Scottish Swimming is committed to selecting Board Directors solely based on their ability to do the job for which they are being recruited and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
