Mustafa

What sport are you involved in and what do you love about it?

My name is Mustafa and I play cricket very often because I enjoy how skills based and technical it is. It is a game that requires quick decision making but also playing with your brain.

What motivated you to be a part of the Young People's Sport Panel?

The reason I wanted to be on the panel is because I wanted to make a difference to the way sports are viewed and make a difference in my community and city.

I am happy to be on the Young People’s Sport Panel because I can meet new people and make new contacts. My goal for my time on the panel is to increase the number of ethnic minorities involved in sports and on a pathway to play sport on a national or international level.

Is there a role model who inspires you? What is it about them you admire?

A role model for me is Babar Azam who is a Pakistani cricketer. The reason I have chosen this person in particular is because he went through heavy criticism for his bad form, but still pushed on trying again and again to score runs and regain his form. This showed his resilience and drive to score and play well for his country. Muhammad Ali is another role model of mine - he stuck to his religion and belief where he didn’t fight in the Vietnam War which lost him all his boxing titles and also landed him in jail for five years.
