Volunteer with Edinburgh Eagles Athletics

What we do

Edinburgh Eagles Athletics Club (EEAC) provides an environment which enables young people (age 6-18) with communication and social difficulties to develop their skills. EEAC aims to give children, with Autistic Spectrum Disabilities and/or learning disabilities or similar conditions, the opportunity to explore sports and friendship in a safe, non-competitive and fun environment. We have about 20 members, 2 coaches and 4 volunteers. The club is affiliated to Lothian Disability Sports and Scottish Athletics.

What are we looking for

Enthusiastic individuals who are interested in working with children with additional needs and can commit to volunteering for at least a term. Someone who can follow the coaches’ lead and encourage, direct and demonstrate to the member so they get the best out of the club.

What can we offer

  • A great experience that will challenge and reward volunteers, as no two children or nights are the same
  • Support you in The Duke of Edinburgh Awards, school, college or university placements
  • References and certificates so that your next application reflects the committed you have to learning and supporting your community
  • Help with travel expenses
  • Trained Athletic Coaches who are happy to share their knowledge and provide feedback
  • Committed parents who run the club and ensure that all volunteering, health and safety and legal requirements and guidelines are followed
  • We are fully insured through Scottish Athletics and have the support of Lothian

When and where

The club runs weekly in term time from 18.00 to 19.30 at the Sport Hub, Forresters High School, 212 Broomhouse Rd, Edinburgh EH12 9AE
