Outdoor Training Scheme (OTS)
One year fixed-term contract starting from April 2020 or September 2020
25 hours per week
Based in Glenmore Lodge, Aviemore.
sportscotland is the national agency for sport in Scotland. Our vision is an active Scotland where everyone benefits from sport.
sportscotland Glenmore Lodge is Scotland’s National Outdoor Training Centre, where our aim is to offer world class training in outdoor adventure sports and encourage more people to enjoy the outdoors more often.
The Outdoor Training Scheme (OTS) offers the opportunity of training, personal development and work experience at Glenmore Lodge, located in the heart of the Cairngorms. The scheme supports aspiring outdoor enthusiasts and develops skills in a range of outdoor activities alongside outdoor industry awareness.
Throughout the OTS there will be opportunities to book on to skills courses which are run from the Centre, and gain skills and experience in the outdoors. For those on the scheme who develop the appropriate level of skills there will also be the opportunity to work towards entry-level National Governing Body (NGB) awards that are essential in a potential future career in the outdoor industry.
Assistance will also be available for those on the scheme to borrow equipment to gain valuable experience, with support available in monthly meetings, individual mentoring and training days. The OTS is integral to the running of the National Centre so will include a rota of kitchen and domestic duties.
We are looking for six highly motivated individuals (3 in April 2020 and 3 in September 2020) who have a keen interest in outdoor adventure sports. Ideally you will be exploring the possibility of a future career in the outdoors. Due to the nature of the role, you should be a team player with good communication skills and an openness to learn and support others. Kitchen and household experience is not required, however, awareness of what this work involves and a commitment to undertake it as part of the scheme is essential.
A Basic Disclosure Check is required for this role, details of which can be found here.
Your monthly salary for this post after deductions for living expenses and training course costs will be £316 per month. You will have accommodation on a single room basis with shared facilities, and meals are provided when working with self-catering at all other times. On average a participant on the OTS will attend up to 30 skills courses, alongside some initial NGB award courses as appropriate.
