This is a fantastic opportunity to work as the Head Tennis Coach at one of Scotland’s most important tennis clubs. You will bring energy and enthusiasm into this strategically important club. You will be responsible for the management of the group coaching programme at the Club with special responsibility for junior performance coaching where you will directly provide both squad and individual lessons for the Club’s most promising young players.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Planning & delivering an annual programme of tennis coaching with clear structures and pathways for progression
- Help to increase club membership by driving up numbers participating in tennis coaching
- Manage and develop the coaching team which currently consists of 2 full-time coaches, 2 part-time coaches and a number of LTA level 1 & 2 coaching assistants
- Leading the on-court delivery of junior performance squads
- Providing clear lines of communication between players, coaches and parents of players
- Managing team selection for junior and adult teams
- Lead the top adult teams in terms of training and development
- Work with the Tennis Manager to deliver school taster sessions at our existing schools
- Offering players tournament support where appropriate
- Providing a comprehensive racket stringing service with the option of providing a rackets shop service in the existing Tennis Pro Shop
Venue Overview
Strathgryffe Tennis & Squash Club is located in Houston just 10 minutes away from Glasgow Airport and 20 minutes away from Glasgow City Centre.
The facilities include 6 outdoor artificial grass court with LED lighting, 2 acyrillic indoor courts (soon to have LED Lighting), 2 artificial Claytex carpet indoor courts (with LED lighting), 2 glass-backed squash courts, a games room, a comprehensive gym and a lounge bar.
The Club has over 900 members split between tennis, squash and fitness. The majority of members are in the tennis section with over 650 tennis members. The tennis coaching programme typically totals 350+ players per coaching block. The Club operates well established school links with regular visits to over a dozen nearby schools helping to generate new players into the tennis coaching programme.
The Club is a private members club run by an enthusiastic and forward thinking main committee. The Head Tennis Coach would working alongside a part-time Tennis Manager and a part-time Club Manager.
Person Specification
The applicant should possess the following skills and attributes;
- Previous experience of running a tennis coaching programme
- A proven track record of developing junior players through to County and national levels
- LTA Level 4 or 5 qualification and preferably the performance strand
- To be an LTA Accredited + Coach
- Hold a current Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
- Demonstrate an understanding and commitment to the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults
- An engaging character with good verbal communication skills with a pro-active approach
- Flexibility in working hours with willingness to work into the evening and at weekends
- Highly self-motivated with good organisational skills
- Willingness to pursue self-development through qualifications and the attendance of regular CPD events
- Experience of playing to senior County level – desirable
- Good IT and social media skills
- Be able to work independently and as part of a team
