Role summary

As REN96’s Assistant Head Coach you will be responsible for working with the Head Coach to deliver the 3-year plan for REN96 that has a goal of delivering improvements in the swimming programme across all squads, with the Assistant Head Coach leading this initiative within the Development and Inclusivity (D&I) section of the club.

Your primary practical poolside focus will be as a coach to squads within the D&I section of the club, with you having the opportunity to choose where you focus your efforts and can make the biggest impact.

In parallel to that, you will lead the D&I coaching team to deliver an overall holistic, rounded, balanced and fun programme that supports our swimmers in these squads. Enabling all swimmers to develop the necessary skills and fitness in a supportive environment,
The pathways and progression from learn to swim entry and through the D&I squads need to be honed and embedded, so you will devise a programme (in conjunction with the Head Coach) that takes swimmers from LTS and delivers talented swimmers to the Age Group squads as well as catering for those who do not wish to compete, but remain engaged in swimming as a means of recreation and participation.

Main functions and duties

  • Support the Head Coach in developing and delivering a three year and annual revision of a plan, for sharing and agreement with the Committee
  • Lead with purpose and by example to all swimmers and coaches
  • Provide a quality coaching programmes to the ability of all athletes within the D&I section
  • Assist the athletes to achieve their full potential
  • Lead and coordinate the D&I coaching team, and provide advice and support to assistant coaches and helpers
  • Ensuring all squads have a suitably qualified coach
  • Establish a coaching development plan
  • Operate a sustainable coaching schedule that provides a work/life balance for our coaching team
  • Enable clear, progressive and accessible development paths for athletes and coaches of all abilities and give regular feedback on progression
  • Abide by and promote sound ethics and club policies; Wellbeing & Protection, fair play and equal opportunities to all members
  • Attend and supervise swimmers at competitions
  • Maintain links with Learn to Swim Programme to create a clear pathway to club
  • Ensure D&I coaching team maintain accurate records of attendance, attainment and any other relevant documentation required
  • Complete any other activities deemed necessary to ensure the smooth running and successful improvement of the club
  • Attend relevant training and CPD as required
