Scottish Amateur Swimming Association Limited (trading as Scottish Swimming) is a company limited by guarantee. Scottish Swimming seeks committed individuals with a passion for sport in Scotland to fulfil a vacancy on the organisation’s Board of Directors. Working as part of a team, the chosen candidates will possess a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities within sport, along with the essential leadership qualities to steer the strategic direction of Scottish Swimming.
As a member of the Board of Directors, you will contribute to the Company’s strategic operations, report to the membership annually alongside the Chair and CEO, and focus on the following specific tasks:
- Support the planning and development of key objectives outlined in the Corporate Plan.
- Challenge and support the work of the team, ensuring the Company delivers against the corporate plan through achieving the annual targets.
- Ensure the company meets financial objectives and going concern responsibilities.
- Act as Board Project Sponsor for a variety of company projects, bringing outside knowledge, experience and innovation to the Company.
- Maintain a current knowledge of the Board’s activities, the work of Scottish Swimming and the work of the relevant sports and partner associations.
- Promoting Scottish Swimming and its objectives within all appropriate forums.
- Understand your role as a Director of a limited company and your responsibility to Companies House.
This challenging role will suit highly driven and passionate individuals who believe they can contribute positively to Scottish Swimming’s future and are available to attend approximately six Board meetings each year (normally held in Stirling), our annual general meeting which usually takes place on either of the last two Saturdays in September plus other events or meetings on an agreed and ad hoc basis.
Having carried out a full “Skills Gap Analysis” of the current Board profile, Scottish Swimming is looking for a candidate who brings strategic insight and experience in Sports Development and Education, specifically:
- Fostering partnerships that enhance participation and talent pathways
- Knowledge and understanding of inclusive, community-focused programs that grow participation
- Knowledge and understanding of education, qualifications, CPD and people development in a sporting context.
