Description
We seek enthusiastic, active members of the sport and physical activity sector to join the Scotland Workforce Professional Development Board (WPDB). The WPDB's strategic vision is to increase the attractiveness of working and volunteering in the sport and physical activity sector and ensure that all customers and consumers have an excellent experience across all industry areas.
As a WPDB member, you will be the leading source of expertise and leadership for Scotland's sports and physical activity professions for education, personal development, training, endorsement, and career pathways. The purpose of the WPDB is to act as a safeguard in delivering our sector’s employers and deployers asks by:
- Shaping standards for professionals working in our sector.
- Influencing stakeholders and policy, holding them to account to deliver at pace.
- Providing opportunities to support individuals to be the best they can be.
We seek expert candidates with significant knowledge and/or experience operating strategically in private, public or third sectors.
The WPDB shall strive to ensure that it contains, at any time, a balance of members who have the specific skills, knowledge, and influence from the relevant industries across the sector, including representation from:
- Community Sport
- Exercise & Fitness
- Leisure Operations
- Performance Sport
- Physical Activity
- Training and education
- Health
- Equality (Equity) Diversity and Inclusion
- Youth panel
It is envisaged that you will join us for an initial period of three years.
Meetings will be held quarterly. The majority will be online via Microsoft Teams; however, we will endeavour to facilitate at least one in-person meeting a year.
Key tasks include but are not limited to:
- Review the work of the UK Sport & Physical Activity Workforce Professional Development Board (UK S& PA WPDB) and interpret it for delivery in Scotland.
- Ensure that the Scotland WPDB pursues its objectives as defined in its terms of reference.
- Ensure the Skills Plans of the Workforce Professional Development Committees are aligned with the Scottish sport and physical activity sector and fit the organisation's purpose in Scotland.
- Engage, lead and influence stakeholders within Scotland to align with the defined sector skills strategy.
- Ensure all education products are aligned with UK professional standards, such as apprenticeship frameworks.
- Ensure professional standards are embedded where appropriate within Scotland's skills system.
- Ensure that the Scotland WPDB pursues its objectives as defined in its terms of reference.
- Optimise the relationship between the Scotland WPDB and the Scottish sport and physical activity sector.
- Support the UK S&PA WPDB with direct and purposeful strategic actions and decision-making.
- Annually review the objectives and outcomes of the WPDB against the terms of reference and operational plan.
