sportscotland and CIMPSA are committed to taking an innovative and engaging approach to delivering our mutual goals through the further development of the Scottish Workforce.  This is reflected in our recent Memorandum of Understanding and the employment of a Partnership Executive specifically to support the sporting system here in Scotland.

We are seeking to recruit members of the sport and physical activity sector to join a newly established Scotland Professional Development Board (SPDB). The strategic vision of the SPDB is to ‘grow the attractiveness of working and volunteering in the sport and physical activity sector’ supporting all customers and consumers of sport and physical activity to have an excellent experience.


The SPDB will act as a primary source of expertise and leadership for sport and physical activity professions in Scotland with a focus on education, personal development, training, endorsement and career pathways.

The purpose of the SPDB is to support and respond to employers and deployers requirements by;

  1. Shaping standards for professionals working in our sector.
  2. Influencing stakeholders and decision makers.
  3. Providing opportunities to support organisations and individuals to be the best they can be.

We are seeking candidates with significant knowledge or experience operating at a strategic level in either the private, public or third sector; further information can be found within the Member role profile.

The SPDB shall strive to ensure that it contains at any time a balance of members who have the specific skills, knowledge and influence from the relevant industries across the sector including representation from:

  • Community Sport
  • Performance Sport
  • Leisure Operations
  • Exercise & Fitness
  • Physical Activity

Member role profile

It is envisaged a SPDB member will serve for an initial term of three years.

2020 Proposed Meeting Dates

  • Wednesday 18th March
  • Wednesday 17th June
  • Wednesday 16th September
  • Wednesday 9th December

Meetings will take place quarterly at the sportscotland, Caledonia House, South Gyle, Edinburgh EH12 9DQ, during office hours.
