RYA Scotland is one of the foremost Sport Governing Bodies in Scotland. We protect and promote the interests of the 76,000 strong boating community and the 21,000 people in 300 RYA Affiliated Clubs, Class Associations and Training Centres across Scotland.
Our Class Academy programme is particularly successful and has been the springboard into our performance programme for many aspiring young sailors. We are very proud of our achievements and our innovative approaches and plan to keep pushing forward to be the best we can be.
The Royal Yachting Association Scotland is seeking an exceptional individual to join the RYA Scotland Performance Team.
The Performance Sailing Officer will coordinate the delivery of our Class Academy programme and ensure the right resources are deployed to facilitate this.
You will facilitate the connections and relationships with the various pathway classes that RYA Scotland supports and works with to ensure our work compliments theirs and creates synergies that enable Scottish Sailors to develop the key attributes to succeed in the Performance pathway.
Working with colleagues and volunteers, you will support and deliver a number of key racing events throughout the year and connect to programme evolution, supporting and generating successful club and class racing across Scotland.
You will be responsible for ensuring our equipment is maintained in first class condition.
The Performance Sailing Officer operates a significant portion of the Performance Department budget. You will be part of a tight knit, supportive, integrated team which supports grass roots sport development, coach development, equality, inclusion and volunteer development. We see these functions as an ecosystem that is supported by and equally supports the performance aspect of our sport.
You will have a background in sports development with experience as a coach and / or instructor.
You are already a self-starter capable of working independently and also as a supportive member of a dynamic and energetic staff team in the RYA Scotland Office.
You have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a track record of working within a team and managing your time effectively to meet deadlines.
The role involves considerable travel across Scotland as well as travel to wider UK locations and occasionally overseas. Consequently a full clean UK driving licence and valid passport are essential as is the availability to work flexibly including a number of evenings and regular weekends throughout the year.
RYA Scotland is committed to equality of opportunity.
We are passionate about equality and inclusion and welcome applications from all.
We are proud to be the first and only Sport Governing Body in Scotland to hold the LGBT Youth Scotland Foundations Charter and to have been the first in Scotland to achieve the Sport Councils Advanced Equality Standard. We have a focus on engaging women in sailing, disability is no barrier to participation and we are actively changing to include young people in our decision making so when we say we welcome applications from all – we really mean it!
