The opportunity
Jed-Forest Rugby Football Club is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and community-focused Rugby Development Officer to help shape the future of rugby in Jedburgh and make a lasting impact. This is an exciting opportunity to work across Jedburgh Grammar Campus, Jed Thistle, Jed Jaguars, Jed-Forest RFC and in the wider community. The successful candidate will be at the heart of developing a clear Jedburgh Rugby Pathway, creating a connected rugby environment that gives more young people the opportunity to start playing, enjoy the game, develop their skills and progress through rugby.
The role
The Rugby Development Officer will lead and coordinate rugby development activity across Jedburgh, working closely with schools, coaches, volunteers, players, parents and community partners. The role will focus on four key areas:
School rugby
Develop a strong and sustainable relationship with Jedburgh Grammar Campus and local primary schools. You will:
Develop and coordinate school rugby opportunities.
Increase participation in rugby across the school.
Support curricular, extracurricular and lunchtime rugby.
Develop opportunities for pupils new to rugby.
Support school teams, festivals and competitions.
Create stronger links between school rugby and Jed Thistle.
Support the transition from primary to secondary school rugby.
Develop opportunities for girls' rugby.
Identify pupils who could benefit from club rugby and help them make the transition.
Club and player development
Work with Jed Thistle, Jed Jaguars and Jed-Forest RFC to strengthen the local player pathway. You will:
Support recruitment and retention across youth rugby.
Help develop sustainable age-group teams.
Improve school-to-club transition.
Support player development and progression.
Help improve fixture opportunities and fulfilment.
Identify and support players with pathway potential.
Connect players with regional and performance opportunities.
Help retain players through key transition points.
Develop opportunities for young people who may not initially engage with traditional club rugby.
Girls' & women's rugby
Help establish a strong and sustainable pathway for girls and young women in Jedburgh. You will:
Increase girls' participation in schools and clubs.
Develop appropriate playing opportunities.
Support girls' teams and development environments.
Build stronger links between school and club girls' rugby.
Encourage female coaches, volunteers and young leaders.
Support girls progressing into regional and performance pathways.
Promote positive female rugby role models within the community.
Community and workforce development
Build the people and partnerships needed to sustain rugby in Jedburgh. You will:
Develop relationships with local schools and community organisations.
Support coach and volunteer development.
Encourage young people into coaching, refereeing and leadership.
Organise rugby festivals, development days and community events.
Explore alternative formats including touch rugby, Tartan Touch and 7s.
Work with Scottish Rugby and regional partners.
Use participation information to identify opportunities and measure impact.

Experience we would value
You do not necessarily need to have held this exact job before. We would welcome applications from people with experience in:
Rugby coaching or development.
School sport.
Community sport
Club development.
Player development.
Volunteer or coach development.
Girls' and women's sport
A relevant Scottish Rugby coaching qualification or experience within the Scottish rugby environment would be advantageous. As would being registered with SCRUMs and holding a PVG certificate. A full driving licence is required as vehicle is provided for the role.
