We’re looking for a Health & Wellbeing Advisor to join our team and play a key role in delivering life changing programmes for people living with long term health conditions. Working within our leisure centres, you’ll support individuals referred by healthcare professionals, helping them become more active, manage their condition and improve their wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
- To improve health and wellbeing of people referred by health professionals with co-production of appropriate and safe physical activity programmes.
- To liaise with NHS and key partners to act as first point of contact for the referral service.
- To contact, consult, support and guide patients through a 12-week exercise programme specifically and individually tailored to their wellbeing needs throughout East Lothian.
- To deliver one to one and group exercise classes safely to people living with a range of long-term conditions and other health and wellbeing related reasons.
- To ensure the administrative records are accurate for each individual patient on the programme, are completed timeously, thoroughly and in line with GDPR requirements.
- Deal with customer enquiries and comments effectively, feeding back any appropriate information or issues to the Health & Wellbeing Manager.
- To plan and coordinate the timetable and diary of assessment to each patient in partnership with the NHS.
- To assist with training and mentoring of staff who are undergoing training and qualification of exercise referral/ supporting clients with long-term conditions.
- To report regularly to the Health & Wellbeing Manager on the progress and numbers of participants within the programme and advising trends and feedback to make recommendations for programme improvements.
- When required, to support the Health & Wellbeing Manager in the day-to-day duties of the operational responsibilities commensurate with the role.
- To comply with the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and all supplementary legislation.
- To ensure that safe operating procedures for all programmed activities are implemented in line with operational policies and guidelines.
Other such duties as appropriate to the grading of the post as required by the Chief Executive of Enjoy Leisure.
Requirements for this Role
Essential Criteria
- Level 3 GP Exercise Referral Diploma (Supporting people with Long-Term Conditions)
- Formal qualification in Health, Sports Science and/or Fitness/Exercise (e.g. City & Guilds, HND, Diploma, NVQ, SVQ – minimum level 5) relevant to area of technical expertise required by the Service
- First Aid at work/AED qualification
- Experience of working with people living with a long term health condition.
- Experience of working in a leisure environment
- Experience planning and delivering group and 1-1 exercise sessions.
- Experience of working effectively with a team.
- Ability to motivate individuals to achieve lifestyle and behaviour changes.Ability to prioritise and manage own workload.
- Ability to forward plan, work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Ability to work without close supervision, using own initiative.
- Ability to remain calm and work effectively under pressure.
- Ability to identify risk.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality relating to sensitive or personal matters

Desirable Criteria
- Level 4 in any specific specialist field.
- Child Protection Training.
- RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification.
Salary: £14.45 - £15.81 per hour, £26,361.84 - £28,850.39
