Head & Performance Coach: City of Glasgow Swim Team (COGST)

City of Glasgow Swim Team (COGST) is seeking an experienced, visionary and ambitious Head & Performance Coach to lead the club’s coaching programme and High Performance Squad.

With the reopening of Tollcross International Swimming Centre, ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, this is a defining leadership opportunity to elevate one of Scotland’s leading clubs.

This role is delivered in partnership with Scottish Swimming.

City of Glasgow Swim Team

Established over 40 years ago, COGST is one of Scotland’s leading performance swimming clubs, with multiple National League titles, consistent Age Group Championship success, and a history of developing Commonwealth, Olympic and Paralympic athletes.

We operate across multiple Glasgow venues with 13 squads and a coaching team of 15 personnel and a Club Development Officer.

The Role

The Head & Performance Coach will report to the COGST Executive Committee and will be responsible for the overall performance delivery across the club and leading the COGST coaching team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and delivering annual training plans aligned to the Scottish Swimming development framework

  • Developing competition strategies targeting national qualification and performance benchmarks

  • Preparing athletes for national level competition and international progression

  • Leading the entire coaching team, across multiple venues through mentoring, goal setting, performance reviews, and analysis with the aim of creating a consistent high-performance culture

  • Strengthen and build depth within the High Performance Squad, ensuring sustainable success beyond individual athlete cycles

  • Overseeing the swimmer pathway from entry through to performance, with clear measurable progression benchmarks aligned to the National Selection Policy

  • Building and implementing a performance centre structure with partnerships across the universities based in Glasgow

  • Maintaining strong relationships with Scottish Swimming, West District Swimming and key support partners to the COGST programme

  • Organise, attend and supervise annual training camps, including overseas venues

  • Embedding and maintaining high standards of safeguarding, welfare, inclusivity, and athlete wellbeing across all levels within the club

  • Supporting the COGST committee in achieving Aquamark level 3

Additional Responsibilities

This role is part-funded through a formal partnership between City of Glasgow Swim Team and Scottish Swimming. The postholder will play a key role in delivering shared performance outcomes aligned with Scottish Swimming’s national strategy and athlete development pathways.

Work in partnership with Scottish Swimming performance staff to align training and competition strategies

Contribute to national programme activities (as agreed with the Scottish Swimming National Coach) and collaborate with Scottish Swimming coaches and support teams.

Candidate Profile

Applicants should:

  • Hold a UKCC Level 3 qualification or equivalent

  • Be educated to degree level with a relevant degree for the role

  • Have a proven track record of developing swimmers to national level or beyond and have a strong understanding of the Scottish Swimming National Programme structure

  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of long-term athlete development and performance planning

  • Have significant managerial and leadership experience with teams

  • Demonstrate excellent strategic planning and communication skills

  • Demonstrate strong commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practices

  • Current safeguarding and disclosure checks in place

Appointment Details

  • Contract:Permanent employment status

  • Hours:Approx. 40 hours per week (including early mornings, evenings, and weekends)

50% of time will be direct coaching covering 10 sessions per week

50% will be utilised for leadership of team, administration and planning

  • Salary:Range £48k to £58k plus pension, subject to experience

  • Location:Glasgow (UK wide travel and overseas travel for camps required)
