Get Active Get Going Volunteer

Principle Function:

To work with Get Active - Get Going core staff to set up and lead health improvement interventions in the local area, and to promote and inspire participation in physical activity, healthy eating and/or active travel.

Purpose:

You will work towards establishing long term physical activity/healthy eating and/or active travel groups in the local area (North Lanarkshire) for people who are most at need in the community. The ideal volunteer will also raise the profile and attract participants to the programme.

Skills and Experience:

  • Organised and self-motivated
  • Able to communicate effectively
  • Approachable, friendly and professional
  • Passionate about health improvement
  • Smart appearance
  • Enjoy working with the public
  • Be able to complete paperwork
  • Good IT skills is desirable
  • Has Interest in physical activity / healthy eating or active travel
  • Highly motivated for continued professional development

Training:

  • You will be given induction training on the various aspects of the work. You will also receive specific training for your role and will be provided with ongoing support.

Expenses:

  • 45p per mile for travel
  • Paid lunch for any work that lasts over 4 hours.

Reports to: Health and Wellbeing Officer - William Elder

Location:  The Healthy Living Centre, Kirk Road, ML 7 5ET

Hours: Flexible but however we would like volunteers to provide us with a minimum of 10 hours each month for a period of 3 to 4 months for progression through our volunteer pathway.

We would like you to develop and deliver the Get Active Get Going programme locally as often as possible to allow more people the opportunity to be physically active, living healthier happier and greener lives. Get Active Get Going would like to achieve our objectives while training and upskilling individuals who will benefit from employability qualifications that will be provided throughout the volunteer pathway.

Enjoy the outdoors while helping members of the community to become more physically active and helping to improve their health and wellbeing. This is a chance for you to go on to deliver health improvement interventions in healthy eating / physical activity and/or active travel. The aim will be to gain valuable practical experience while being provided with continued professional development qualifications to enhance your opportunities of employment. You will be provided with advertising material and help to promote any activities. We will provide you with all equipment required to deliver your sessions. The volunteer pathway will have a person-centred approach allowing volunteers to shape their own progression through the various stages allowing a sense of achievement.

Progression Opportunities – Paid work in health and fitness, community health improvement, active travel, bike mechanics, sports coaching or development roles.
