Glasgow has been unveiled as the host city for the World Athletics Indoor Championships 2024 (WAIC24) at the Emirates Arena. At Glasgow Life, we are delighted to be an event partner and are now looking for an exceptional Championships Director to bring our vision to life on this world stage and lead event delivery.
Glasgow has a prestigious track record for events, from hosting the Commonwealth Games in 2014 and the inaugural European Championships in 2018 to the European Athletics Indoor Championships 2019, and now we’re preparing to stage the inaugural UCI Cycling World Championships next year. The city has the largest sporting infrastructure in the UK, outside of London, and Europe’s premier indoor athletics arena. WAIC24 provides a fantastic platform to set a new benchmark in event hosting and build on our reputation for innovation, impact and legacy.
Establishing and leading the Local Organising Committee and reporting to the Event Steering Group, the Championships Director will work closely with event partners World Athletics, UK Athletics, Glasgow City Council, EventScotland, Scottish Government, UK Sport and Scottish Athletics in the delivery and activation of the event.
Working with the Head of Events, the postholder will be responsible for delivering the vision for the event on behalf of the city and partners and working with colleagues and stakeholders to harness Glasgow’s unique sporting and events ecosystem to drive lasting impacts and legacy for the city, country and sport.
To be considered for Championships Director, candidates must have: -
- Senior level experience leading the strategic and operational delivery of major events
- A successful track record in managing a multi-functional team to deliver major sporting events within a £multi-million budget
- An ability to build strong relationships and manage requirements of a wide range of stakeholders, across all levels and international jurisdictions
