Waterski and Wakeboard Scotland is the Governing body for the sport in Scotland and is currently recruiting for a Chair to lead the organisation in achieving its strategic objectives and forming an effective organisational structure.

To lead the development of Waterskiing and Wakeboarding in Scotland.

Role vacancy

Chair (Voluntary)

This role requires skill and experience in chairing boards or committees, operating at a senior level in a strategic capacity and holding a previous directorship, trustee or committee member role in either a commercial, voluntary or public sector setting.

Candidates must be independent of the current board of directors, have strong leadership skills and have an ability to remain impartial and objective to ensure the best direction for the organisation. Experience of organisational change is desirable.

The opportunity

The Governing Body for Waterski and Wakeboard in Scotland is under-going a period of significant change. This vacancy for Chair of the Board of Directors, provides the candidate with an exciting opportunity to demonstrate leadership and strategic abilities in shaping the strategic vision and operational structure of the governing body. The chair will have responsibility to deliver on our strategy as specified in our 1-year plan. This will include the appointment of a Chief Operations Officer and a Development Officer. The chair will manage the development of a longer-term strategic and operational plan.

The chair will oversee and guide the work of all sub-committees, including the sub-committee for the operational management of the governing body’s National Training Site, based in Dunfermline. The role will also provide support to the Chief Operating Officer once in post.

Time commitment

Board meetings are held monthly. 2-3 hours per week are required for planning, organising and support in this role.

Expenses/remuneration

This is a voluntary post. Travel and training costs will be reimbursed according to our SGB policies and procedures.

Accountability 

The Chair is accountable to the Board Members of Waterski and Wakeboard Scotland.
The Chair will line manage the Chief Operating Officer.

Main duties

The main duties for this role are:

  • providing leadership to the board
  • ensuring proper and timely information is provided to the board
  • planning and conducting board meetings effectively
  • ensuring all directors are involved in the board’s work
  • ensuring the board focuses on its key tasks
  • engaging the board in assessing and improving its performance
  • overseeing the induction and development of directors
  • liaising with our Partnership Manager at sportscotland
  • leading the implementation of our 1-year plan
  • overseeing the appointment of a Chief Operating Officer and Development Officer
  • supporting the Chief Operating Officer
  • managing the development of a longer-term strategic plan

Terms and conditions 

The candidate will be willing to stand as Chair for a 2-year term.
