Academy Performance Analysis Manager: Rangers Football Club

The role

A unique opportunity has arisen to join Rangers Football Club as an Academy Performance Analysis Manager. The full-time position will be based at the Training Centre reporting to the Academy Scouting Manager.

Working as an integral part of the Academy Performance Services Team, the role’s primary function is to oversee and deliver the provision of performance analysis across the various Rangers Youth Teams.

The Academy Performance Analysis Manager is required to have a strong understanding of football, and a high level of technical expertise. Direction and vision are provided via the overall Club’s Football Strategy and more specifically the Academy Strategy. It is essential that all performance analysis content (across the academy and inclusive of the women’s game) is aligned to these principles. The role is both strategic and hands-on, and therefore the successful candidate must have the necessary skills, experience, and personal qualities to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

At times, the Academy Performance Analysis Manager will be expected to lead and at other times they will support. Success will be derived from their ability to build an efficient and robust process that maximises player development.

Your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Under guidance of the Head of Academy and the Academy Scouting Manager play a leading role in the Club’s analysis provision for the Rangers FC Academy Teams.

As a key pillar of the Club’s overall Football Strategy, the Academy Strategy is essential for a successful Rangers

  • Ensure all performance analysis insights add value to and are aligned with the Academy Strategy
  • Use performance analysis as a means for enhancing player development both technically and tactically

This is a management position and as such you will be expected to:

  • Manage Academy full & part time Analysis staff
  • Manage the Women’s Team full & part time Analysis staff
  • Construct workflows which best serve the respective squads
  • Be responsible for all equipment, ensuring the relevant training is provided to all staff
  • Support the Academy Scouting Manager with respect to budgeting

Liaise with Academic institutions for the purposes of:

  • Delivering the RFC Intern programme
  • Research and development

Primarily focused on the B-Team but as required supporting other teams for one of games and or competitions.

  • Support set piece analysis: pre-game, in-game and post-game.
  • Deliver concise, detailed, and accurate post-match analysis for all games
  • Support, and when appropriate lead, the delivery of half-time analysis to aid performance and influence decisions
  • Use the Academy Performance Plan to highlight; strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of the opposition - in and out of possession and at set pieces.
  • Collate pre-match tactical analysis for all Domestic and European matches
  • Support player development in both Team and Unit meetings
  • Create content which supports the wider coach education process – internal R&D as well as external more academic research
  • Ensure positional performance profiles exist for the various Academy age groups – tie in with the First Team Analysis team as required
  • Build and maintain a library of best practice from training and games
  • Connect training and game footage to player development and match preparation
  • Ensure all content (training and games) is securely stored on the Rangers content management system.
  • Ensure content is accessible on site and remotely.

Ensure excellent collaboration and communication exists between key footballing departments across the Club:

  • Scouting – Share content, ideas, principles of play and individual performance profiles.
  • Loans – Support video work and exit packs.
  • Medical – Share injury related video content.
  • Sports Science – Support athletic assessment – training and in game
  • Psychology – Support delivery as and when required
  • Academy – Share content and methodologies, support delivery as and when required

Maintain a strong working relationship with RangersTV, sharing content from training and games as required

An essential part of the role is being highly proficient in a number of specific performance analysis software some of which include:

  • Sportscode
  • Hudl
  • Playermaker
  • Adobe Creative Suite
  • Video annotation software
  • Keynote, Pages, Numbers, Microsoft Office
  • Be aware of and have an interest in Data Analytics
  • Be able to contextually apply performance data in innovative and informative way
  • Use data to help predict performance and development
  • An appreciation of and an ability to use data to provide performance insights is a key part of the role.
