Responsible to: Glasgow University Women’s Football Club Committee
Remuneration: £14 per hour (commuting time to ‘away’ games also paid at this rate.)
Role Duration: 23 weeks (25th November 2024 – 30th April 2025, with 2 weeks break for Christmas) Contract renewed annually according to the academic year.
Place of work: Garscube sports complex and ‘away’ match venues.
Hours
Monday – 20:30- 22:00 (Training.)
Tuesday- 19:00-20:30 (Training.)
Wednesday- Fixture Day, KO times and venues vary.
Club Mission
Glasgow University Women’s Football Club (GUWC) is a vibrant, welcoming, and inclusive club that aims to cater for all playing abilities. GUWFC is one of the largest female clubs at the University of Glasgow, comprising of four BUCS Wednesday teams, as well as a strong development squad solely for recreation.
The 1st team play in the BUCS Women’s Scottish tier 1 league, competing every Wednesday against the other top university women’s football clubs. The team is aiming for a strong finishing position in the league this season and those after. The 1st team is comprised of skilled, experienced players who are passionate and committed to excellence on the pitch with a shared motivation to drive towards success and growth.
We are looking for a self-motivated individual who embraces our ambition to develop this team with not only technical knowledge, but also passion for women in sport. The 1st team head coach will be responsible for developing a culture of continuous improvement and work alongside the student led committee and our other staff to achieve this. This will include but is not limited to other club coaches, the club partnership with Glasgow University Sports Association, UofG sport staff and The Scottish Football Association.
Required Certification
- Scottish/Equivalent Level 1.1 Coaching Qualification (minimum).
- Experience coaching competitive football (Women’s adult football preferred but not essential.)
- First Aid training preferred.

- Comprehensive understanding of the technical and tactical aspects of the game.
- Excellent inter-personal and communication skills.
- High-level organisational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with other coaches and associated staff.
- Demonstrated ability to integrate and develop young players.
- Ability to coach at a high level.
- Reliability and punctuality.
Desirable Skills
- Knowledge of University Football.
- Experience in University/Youth Football and evidenced success in developing young talent.
- Diversity of experience at a high level across different formats and cultures.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and deliver all coaching sessions for the 1st team- 1x 1.5hour training session on Monday and Tuesday evenings.
- Oversee squad selection for all match days.
- Lead the 1st team on all BUCS league and Cup Match Days (Most Wednesdays from October- February, hours may differ on away days, but commute time is included in hourly wages.)
- Planning for fixtures.
- Arrange and deliver comprehensive training and game plans for players.

- Create a welcoming team environment.
- Be a supportive and friendly member of the club who is able to aid or direct members to the appropriate committee members.
