Independent Non-Executive Directors: Badminton Scotland

Purpose of the Role:

Independent Non-Executive Directors provide support and challenge to the Chair and to the Board, as well as assisting with strategic leadership and independent advice, and oversight of the organisation’s performance and decision-making. • Oversee and monitor the effective use of public funds (e.g. sportscotland investment) and ensure compliance with regulatory and governance standards.
  • Participate fully in Board meetings and subcommittees as required, contributing to effective and inclusive decision-making.
  • Uphold the highest standards of integrity and collective responsibility as part of the Board.
  • Act in the best interests of Badminton Scotland as a whole, rather than representing individual stakeholders or groups.
  • Support the organisation’s commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and safeguarding across all areas of activity.
  • Serve as an ambassador for the organisation, building positive relationships with stakeholders and promoting the sport.

Person Specification:

  • Demonstrable experience in strategic decision-making, senior leadership, or governance.
  • Independence from the sport’s operational structures (e.g. ideally not a current active player or badminton employee).
  • Strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A collaborative mindset, with the ability to constructively challenge and support fellow Board members and the executive team.
  • Commitment to the values of integrity, transparency, and inclusion in sport.
