About the League

Our football league is rooted in tradition yet forward-thinking in its vision. We bring together clubs, players, officials, and fans from diverse backgrounds, united by a shared love of football. The league operates between late August and June the following year. At international level - yes we have a Scotland Powerchair Football team - we train and attend up to six international events every year. Our next trip is to the Euro Nations in Italy during September.

Every year, the season kicks off with a League Cup event as part of the 2025 Dundee City Disability Sports Discovery Games

The Role of League Secretary

As League Secretary, you will be the administrative backbone of the SPFA ensuring the smooth running of the League, Scottish Cup and International events. Researching venues, running league draws and events, communicating results and league plans between clubs, officials, governing bodies, and partner organisations. You will be integral to the effective communication, compliance, and development of our leagues.

Main Responsibilities

  • Managing Fixtures and Schedules: Coordinate and publish the annual fixture list; make necessary adjustments due to availability or unforeseen circumstances; communicate updates promptly to all stakeholders.
  • Meeting Coordination: Arrange and facilitate league meetings. Usually with the General Committee of Clubs
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all league activities comply with FIPFA (Federation of International Powerchair Football Associations) regulations and the league's own rules; liaise with SPFA, EPFA and FIPFA on regulatory matters and keep abreast of changes in Powerchair Football governance.
  • Communication: Serve as the primary contact for clubs, officials, and sponsors; respond efficiently to queries, disseminate information, and always maintain open lines of dialogue.
  • Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records pertaining to fixtures, results, player registrations, disciplinary actions, and other league matters; oversee the secure storage and management of sensitive data.
  • Promotional Activities: Assist in the development and execution of promotional campaigns; contribute content for the league's website, social media channels, and newsletters, highlighting key achievements and upcoming events.
  • Financial Administration: Support the Treasurer in processing membership fees, fines, and other financial transactions; maintain transparency and accountability in all financial dealings.
  • Safeguarding and Welfare: Champion safeguarding best practices; ensure all league participants have access to support and resources to foster a safe, respectful environment.

What We're Looking For

  • Excellent Organisation: Proven ability to manage complex schedules, prioritise tasks, and keep meticulous records.
  • Strong Communication: Confident speaker and writer, able to convey information clearly and diplomatically to a wide range of audiences.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in administrative duties and respect for confidentiality.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to embrace change, learn new systems and procedures, and tackle unforeseen challenges.
  • Team Player: Collaborative spirit and willingness to work closely with club representatives, officials, and volunteers.
  • Passion for Football: Genuine enthusiasm for the sport and its role in the community.
  • IT Literacy: Familiarity with email, spreadsheets, word processing, and (ideally) league management software.
  • Integrity: Commitment to fairness, transparency, and upholding the values of the league.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working with volunteers and community groups.
  • First-hand involvement in grassroots football-as player, coach, official, or supporter-is a plus.

Selection Timeline

  • We are hoping to appoint a league secretary by mid September at the latest.
  • Deadline for applications will remain open until we find the right person
  • Applicants can expect an immediate response to their submission following which we will establish suitability for the role and refer to the Trustee Board for further discussion.
