Audit & Risk Committee Independent Chair: Scottish Swimming

(Voluntary Position)

Scottish Swimming seeks a committed and experienced individual, with a passion for sport in Scotland, to fulfil the role of Independent Chair of our Audit & Risk Committee a sub-committee to Scottish Swimming’s Board. Scottish Swimming is the trading name of Scottish Amateur Swimming Association Limited, a company limited by guarantee, one of the largest sport’s governing bodies in Scotland, with c24,000 members.

The role of the Audit and Risk Committee is primarily to support and advise the Board in the following:

  • Identification and management of significant risks - whether strategic, financial, operational or reputational.
  • Oversight of internal and external financial reporting.
  • Gaining assurance that important internal controls are in place and working effectively. 

The Audit & Risk Committee also reviews the organisation’s approach to risk management and makes recommendations to the Board to improve financial controls and risk management systems.   In addition, the Sub Committee considers the preparation of, and disclosures in, the Company's annual financial statements prior to review and approval by the Board.

The Sub Committee consists of an Independent Chair and three Board Directors.  The Independent Chair is appointed on a 4 year basis (maximum term is two 4 year terms) and is not a Board position.

Audit & Risk Committee meetings are held up to six times per annum, usually on a virtual basis and within four weeks prior to each Board meeting.

As Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee you will be responsible for reporting to the Board, and ensuring the committee focuses on the following specific areas:

  • Strategic processes for risk, control and governance.
  • Nature and adequacy of management response to relevant and emerging issues.
  • Scope and results of internal audit activity.
  • Professional review of our external financial reporting.
  • Review of annual budgets and internal / external financial reporting, including considering the going concern basis of preparation.
  • Oversight and monitoring of the operation of Crisis Management Policy.
  • Support Scottish Swimming in managing changes in the risk landscape, including new risks as they are identified.
