Activities Volunteer: Dundee Stroke Exercise Club

Responsible for: Stroke survivors of Dundee Stroke Exercise Club in the Dundee Leisure & Culture (DLAC)

Responsible to: Chairperson

Working Hours: 1 hour up to 3 hours

Sessions held in: Douglas Sport Centre

Job Purpose

  • Allowing stroke survivors, a safe and professional rehabilitation exercise programme where they can enhance their confidence while improving their fitness
  • Facilitating beginning of a social network of fellow stroke survivors

  • Physiotherapist

Main Duties

Facilitating the rehabilitation of stroke survivors by encouraging them to;

  • carry out stroke specific exercises and activities
  • practice their balance
  • enhance their hand eye co-ordination
  • try new techniques
  • try and fail in a safe environment
  • engage in conversation

Other Duties

  • provide support to carers, both psychological and practical
  • Providing a safe environment.
  • Adhering to DSEC Policies and Standards
  • Attend relevant training sessions

This job description is a broad reflection of the post and is not exhaustive with duties evolving over time. Therefore, it is not a contractual document and the post holder will be required to carry out other duties.

Personal Qualities and Experience

  • Ability to encourage against resistance
  • Ability to safely mobilise wheelchairs
  • Available to attend Moving & Handling training
  • Must be polite and efficient manner for communication with general public
  • Must be non-judgemental
  • Must be friendly, chatty and cheery!
