Kira Henry

Name: Kira Henry

How long have you been a FFG tutor? This will be my third year as a FFG tutor.

What do you do day to day?

I’m currently in my 4th year at uni studying a degree in Education while working various part-time youth work jobs and volunteering with sportscotland and the SFA.

What sport(s) do you participate in?

I’ve always loved trying new sports and try to do this as much as I can but my main sport was football which I hope to start playing again soon.

Do you have any female role models?

Jessica Ennis Hill, she’s someone I’ve looked up to for a long time. She just always seemed to keep going no matter what and come out on top. Her determination is something I’ve always wanted to have.

Outwith sport - My gran, she showed me that there’s always more than one way to achieve your goals. She didn’t follow the traditional path to get to where she wanted to go in her career and that’s given me the courage to follow my own path too.

Why did you want to join the programme?

When applying to join the program I was inspired by some of the tutors who were already in the program, I was volunteering in a different program that was coming to an end but I felt my work wasn’t finished yet and FFG seemed like something amazing that I couldn’t not be a part of.

What have you learned so far?

So far in my time as a FFG tutor, I’ve learned that there are always new ways to do things. Better ways to get more people involved and solutions to barriers we didn’t know we needed.

What is your advice for girls who want to get involved in sport?

Getting started can be scary but once you start, the opportunities, skills and people that sport can provide make it all worth it.
