Becca McNeil

What do you do day to day?

I am currently a 4th year student at the University of Edinburgh studying MA Physical Education. I also work in various part time jobs and enjoy spending time with family and friends.

What sport(s) do you participate in?

I have played competitive netball since the age of 13 and played nearly every sport growing up but netball being my favourite! I also go to the gym 3-4 times a week which I enjoy also!

Do you have any female role models?

Laura Langman, she is one of the most influential netball players from New Zealand and gave back to her community. I got the chance to meet her in 2019 at the Netball World Cup.

Also my mum and gran are my role models. If it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be at the point of my life I am at today. They support and motivate me through everything in my life.

Why did you join the programme?

I joined the FFG programme due to a workshop I attended during my reading week at uni, I was inspired and wanted to get involved. I feel I have so much to learn in FFG that will help my future career goals.

What have you learned so far?

As a new FFG tutor, I have learned fun ways to get girls to create a community on common barriers and work together to come up with solutions that I might not have thought of.

What is your advice for girls who want to get involved in sport?

To just go for it. What’s the worst that could happen?
