What do you do day to day?
I’m currently a first-year student at Robert Gordon University studying Applied Sport and Exercise Science. Alongside my studies I volunteer with the Denis Law Legacy Trust, which is a children’s charity that supports and empowers young people to thrive through a range of positive free to access sport and activities.
Do you have any female role models?
I always find this question so difficult to answer because I can never choose a single person. Personally, I find myself wanting to take certain aspects from a variety of different women whether that’s my mum, and female family members, people I meet through my studies or professional footballers such as Kim Little and Beth Mead and then combine them all into the women I want to become. I value their strength, tenacity and compassion and want to demonstrate that in my own ways throughout my life. Not all role models have to be famous people and sometimes the best ones are everyday people who have achieved something you strive to achieve too.
Why did you want to be a FFG tutor?
I want to be a Fit for Girls tutor because I see it as an opportunity to be the role model for young girls that I never felt I had. Many girls continue to face barriers preventing them from participating at the best of their ability. Being a Fit For Girls Tutor gives me an outlet to share my story and encourage and inspire girls to remain involved in sport and to provide them with opportunities to lead within their schools, clubs or communities. FFG is the perfect way to empower women and girls in sports and make a credible difference whilst giving back to the sporting community that’s shaped me into who I am today.
What is your advice for girls who want to get involved in sport?
Go for it! My advice would be to dive in headfirst and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Often you learn more from failure than you do from success. Also remember that everyone is different and it’s an incredible thing to stand out, never try to change yourself just to fit in. Sport can you provide you with so many amazing opportunities and you never know where it could take you, but most importantly sport allows you to find your voice and use it to make a difference.
