Name: Abbie Smith
How long have you been a FFG tutor? around 7 months
What do you do day to day?
I am currently in my 2nd studying sport and exercise at Abertay University, looking to study Sports Coaching and Development in my 3rd and 4th year! I work for Active Schools Fife, Fife Multi-Sport and Scottish Sports Futures. I also volunteer for Active Schools Dundee.
What sport(s) do you take part in?
My favourite sport is netball!
Do you have any female role models?
I don’t actually have one. For me, there are so many amazing people who I know have helped me to grow and learn. From people I work with to the girls at my netball club, I don’t think I could pick just one!
Why did you want to be a FFG tutor?
I wanted to be a FFG tutor because the message that is spread through the FFG program is so important. I wanted to help as many young girls hear this message and to help them find their voice to help drive a positive change within sport.
What have you learned so far?
I’ve learned that it is important to give young girls the space to have their voices heard. There are so many amazing stories, opinions and thoughts that these girls have that the world needs to hear!
What is your advice for girls who want to get involved in sport?
Stop caring how other people perceive you! There are so many things that I was too scared to say yes to because I cared so much about other people's opinions!
