The Firhill Youth Project and Community Sports Hub SCIO is supported by key partners Scottish Rowing, Glasgow Life/Sport, Glasgow Kayak Club, Partick Thistle Football Club and is a voluntary organisation which aims to positively impact lives in the North Glasgow community. Based at the Firhill Basin, we provide local young people with a number of free/affordable, accessible, and sustainable opportunities to become active and stay active in their local community through rowing and other water sports activities. We understand the necessity for young people to have meaningful opportunities to participate in sport and physical activity, and it is our mission to help break down the barriers that currently hinder their participation.
Since our inception in June 2019, we have helped an extensive number of local young people to access, utilize, and enjoy their local waterway, the Forth and Clyde canal. Furthermore, we have developed community-based partnerships with local schools, youth groups, charities and housing associations which has enabled us to extend our reach and provide more local young people with free opportunities to participate.
We are looking to appoint a dynamic and driven Secretary to join our Board of Trustees to provide administrative support to the role of chairperson and help guide and shape our organisation as it moves forward into the next phase of our journey. Our organisation became a constituted group in January 2021 and gained charitable status as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) in July 2022. You would be joining our organisation at an exciting time and will be instrumental in helping us work towards a more sustainable future in which more local young people are afforded with opportunities to become active and stay active in their local community.
Chairperson/Trustees will be required to be spend approximately 8-10 hours a month, including quarterly meetings with the management committee. The Chairperson/Trustees are responsible for the strategic direction, accountability of the organisation, as well as risk management, quality, and performance monitoring. The Chairperson & Trustees will be expected to challenge and contribute to the development of the organisation and ensure financial controls and governance systems are robust, transparent, and compliant with appropriate regulations.

Although the role of charity trustee is unpaid, you will be using your skills and expertise to make a big impact by helping us take the next steps in our journey to support the organisation to recruit additional volunteers and to take on an active role in a range of areas including; Child Protection, Funding, HR, Governance/Procedures and Marketing as well as recruiting a Safety Officer.
All trustees will be provided will access to suitable training opportunities, to help them fulfil and develop in their role. We are looking to develop a diverse Board with a wide range of skills and experience and welcome applications from people of all genders, sexual orientations, backgrounds, nationalities, religions, and beliefs. Applicants must be aged 18+.
