Heather Jackson

Name: Heather Jackson

How long have you been a FFG tutor? 11 months

What do you do day to day?

I completed my BA(Hons) degree in sports studies at the University of Stirling in June 2024. I then returned to begin my masters in sport management which began in September 2024. During the summer months, I began working for Scottish Women's Football as the Clubs and Competitions Coordinator and League Administrator for youth leagues all over Scotland.

What sport(s) do you participate in?

I participate in competitive netball and a variety of sports recreationally such as tennis, football, running, and hillwalking.

Do you have any female role models?

My sporting role model is Kim Little who represented our country in football and who currently plays for Arsenal in the WSL. Outwith sport, a female role model I have is my mum - she has shown me to never give up on my dreams, taught me how to be strong, passionate and understanding and she has never given up on any of her dreams while always making sure our family has everything they need.

Why did you want to be a FFG tutor?

I joined this programme as I wanted to show young girls that they are capable and worthy of being in the sporting system and I wanted to show them the routes as an athlete/coach/teacher/manager etc. I want to allow them to hear real-life stories which are similar to their own in order to show them that they do belong in sport and that they are being listened to.

What have you learned so far?

I have learned many key communication skills, how to ensure I am saying the correct things and how to adapt to certain situations. I have also developed hugely as a person being within the tutor group. This safe space has allowed me to develop self-esteem, learn leadership and patience and develop resilience.

What is your advice for girls who want to get involved in sport?

You don't have to be the best as long as you are having fun that's the main thing. You will develop and learn skills which you will use in your everyday life.
