Becoming a Corporate Parent

In 2015, sportscotland was designated as a Corporate Parent under Part 9 of the Children and Young People Act 2014 (Scotland), alongside organisations including local authorities, health boards, the police and other public bodies.

In 2016, we published our first three-year corporate parenting plan. This set out our commitments to improving the lives of Scotland’s care-experienced young people through participation in sport. We also listed the actions we would take to meet these commitments.

Our progress to date

In the following report, we outline the progress we’ve made since we published our plan and highlight some examples of our work in action: 2016-19 corporate parenting progress report.

Coronavirus impact

We have currently paused the development of our refreshed Corporate Parenting Plan 2020-23 due to the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). We remain committed to making a difference to the lives of care-experienced young people and will look to resume this as soon as possible.

Children’s Rights Report

We are in the process of developing our first Children’s Rights Report however this is progressing more gradually than anticipated due to COVID-19.

Sport For Life

Within our corporate strategy, Sport For Life, our commitment to inclusion underpins everything we do. For us, inclusion is about valuing all individuals, giving equal access and opportunity to all and removing discrimination and other barriers to involvement.

Corporate parenting is one of our key drivers for inclusion. We aim to understand and respond to the needs of care-experienced young people as any parent should.
