Changing the boundaries report into racism in Scottish Cricket April update

Scotland’s national agency for sport, sportscotland, has today (Friday 28 April) published a further interim update into the progress made by Cricket Scotland following an independent review into racism in the sport.

The Plan4Sport Changing The Boundaries report concluded that the governance and leadership practices of Cricket Scotland to be institutionally racist. This followed an in-depth consultation process with close to 1,000 direct engagements from a broad cross-section of all levels of the sport in Scotland.

Plan4Sport found 448 separate examples of racism, discrimination within Scottish cricket. More than half of those (246) related to policies and procedures across the sport, which created a culture where individuals were discriminated against, while 202 detailed individual concerns relating to direct racism, discrimination and inequalities.

Changing The Boundaries contained three immediate high-level recommendations, with associated sub-recommendations. Today’s interim update provides an overview of progress against each of the recommendations.

The update comes after Cricket Scotland announced a series of key senior appointments, including the arrival of Pete Fitzboydon as Interim Chief Executive. Pete will head up the Senior Leadership Team which has been further enhanced by the appointment of Kash Taank as Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

Please visit the April update page for details of progress to date. Further public progress updates will be published by sportscotland in July and October this year.

Chief Executive of sportscotland, Forbes Dunlop, said: “Cricket Scotland remains in a period of significant change and there are undoubtedly many challenges that lie ahead. We are fully committed to working with the new Cricket Scotland leadership team to provide stability and to ensure the organisation makes the positive progress that we all want to see.

“It is vital that Cricket Scotland continues to address all recommendations in the Changing The Boundaries report and consults meaningfully with all key stakeholders as part of this process. By working together, we will ensure that Scottish cricket has a bright new future.”
