Scotland Beach Head Coach: Scottish Volleyball

6-month Fixed Term Contract

Salary Range FTE: £35,000 per annum. Pro rata £19,720.
37.5hrs per week

Based in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Scottish Volleyball, in partnership with FIVB and sportscotland, is seeking to recruit a Beach Coach to plan, implement and deliver training sessions to our development Beach athletes whilst supporting network coaches and performance athletes. The success candidate will add expertise, value and focus to our beach programme and long-term athlete development plan.

This post is offered for a 6-month fixed term contract based in Scotland. The successful candidate will share our passion and vision for the development of beach volleyball and the appointed person will be required to demonstrate a proven record of successful work with beach athletes and development programmes. Knowledge required for the role includes, project delivery, IT, and statistical analysis, together with excellent leadership, planning, and communication skills. (Spoken English is essential). Required also is the ability to influence, network and develop coaching and coaching contacts successfully within beach volleyball at an international level.

Job specifications and remit

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities include but are not necessarily limited to:

  • Plan and deliver regular coaching sessions for all development and age-group athletes.
  • Plan and deliver monthly national training weekends for senior and performance athletes in-line with agreed Programme outcomes.
  • Work in collaboration with network coaches on junior and senior programmes to support long-term development of athletes.
  • Support the achievement of Scottish Volleyball’s Beach Volleyball Key Performance Indicators.
  • Assist with the recruitment of athletes, coaches, and support staff and effectively manage their development.
  • Lead the Scottish beach programme to provide differentiated and stage appropriate training and competition experiences.
  • Actively engage partnerships with other National Federations and organisations to facilitate programme, athlete, and coach development opportunities. 
  • Support the development of a national network of qualified coaches to effectively recruit, identify, and train high potential players.
  • Support the creation and effective utilisation of feedback reports and individual development plans for selected athletes.
  • Work as directed by the Head of Performance and Coaching to assist in the long-term development of the beach programme in Scotland
  • Deliver high quality, online learning experiences for athletes, Network coaches, clubs, and parents; coordinating with Scottish Volleyball, the Performance Advisory Group, National Team Coaching staff (Network coaches), and Coaches’ Commission, to develop and deliver meaningful and engaging curriculum.
  • Work with our national sports body and funder sportscotland to delivery coach education in-person and online.

Person Specification

Qualifications and attainments - essential

  • Educated to degree level in coach education, sport science, or related field or equivalent work experience is required
  • Experience in a head coach or leadership role with responsibility for player and coach development initiatives
  • Proven track record of success at national/international events with beach athletes and programmes.

Qualifications and attainments - desirable

  • Experience in Coach Education, Sport Science, or Sport Administration
  • FIVB/National Federation Volleyball Coaching Qualification
  • Experience with online video platform and athlete data management systems

Experience - essential

  • Experience with Olympic, Paralympic, or National Governing Body, International Sports Federations.
  • Experience of working in with a volleyball development programme.
  • Experience of coaching in international level competition.

Experience - desirable

  • Experience with National (Youth) Teams, or Elite Clubs and Academies
  • Working with / developing performance programmes.

Skills - essential

  • Ability to collaborate within a team setting, across departments, and across stakeholder groups.
  • Can communicate effectively in English in both written and verbal formats.
  • Ability to mentor and support the development of network coaches.
  • Effective, professional, and detail oriented with a genuine commitment to deliver world-class work product.
  • Passion and energy to promote and engage people of diverse backgrounds and identities.

Skills - desirable

  • Proficient with office-related software including word processing, database, and spreadsheet.
  • Ability to produce high quality media content for internal and external use.

Personal qualities - essential

  • Driven to seek out and develop different ideas and perspectives that can contribute to innovative and impactful programmes in support of Scottish Volleyball and our network coaches.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of holistic athlete development. This includes but is not limited to technical, tactical, physical, and mental/psychological development.

Personal qualities - desirable

  • Ability to influence and develop elite coaching contacts successfully within beach volleyball at an international level.
