Rural Exclusion

Rural exclusion considers the wellbeing of communities, families and people living in rural areas, particularly focusing on people’s ability to meet their financial and health needs.

Context

Most people in Scotland live in large or other urban areas. However, this varies significantly between local authorities.

Physical activity and sport

There isn't enough national data on rurality and sport and physical activity.

See the equality and sport research for more information on our characteristics and physical activity.

Participation in our key programmes

High performance athletes are more likely to be from large urban areas. School participants are more likely to be from other urban areas.
