Disability refers to a physical, sensory or learning impairment which is long term and has an adverse effect on your ability to carry out normal day to day activities. This also includes progressive or degenerative illnesses such as cancer, HIV and MS.

Several datasets use whether people have a long term limiting condition or illness as a proxy for disability. To be consistent, we have used this throughout this section.
