Context for meeting community need

sportscotland, Scottish Government, The Robertson Trust and Spirit of 2012 worked together across 2017-2025 to address the main recommendations in the Sport for Change report published in 2017. The key elements of what was previously referred to as 'The Changing Lives through Sport & Physical Activity' work from 2017-2024 are noted below.

The development of clear messaging and leadership roles around the Changing Lives through Sport & Physical Activity approach

The development of a range of active and passive learning and development support to build knowledge, skills and capacity. This is targeted at the workforce which supports delivery organisations, and also directly at the delivery organisations themselves, and focusses on effective approaches to delivering change, and on effective organisations

The delivery of a "Changing Lives through Sport & Physical Activity Fund' provides short term additional resource into the sporting and community sector to better address wider individual and community needs through sport & physical activity and support them to become and stay active. Changing Lives has now evolved in to Meeting Community Need to better align with current national strategy and priorities. The approach supports the Sport for Life strategy which sets out the direction for sport and sportscotland. It celebrates how everyone in Scotland can benefit from sport. It sets out sportscotland's commitment to inclusion underpinning everything we do, and our approach to equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) brings this commitment to life. We need meaningful, intentional action to drive this change. We won't achieve this alone, and our EDI approach shows how we will play our part. Our use of the approach to meet community need contributes to our EDI strategy and our aim to increase diverse participation by providing learning and development to the professional officers working with club and community organisations, to support them to achieve participation outcomes as well as contributing to wider outcomes.
