The Adult Wellbeing and Protection in Sport (AWPS) training is suitable for coaches, leaders, volunteers, officials and also individuals responsible for leading their club or organisation in the wellbeing and protection of adults. Learners will have the opportunity to develop knowledge of the roles and responsibilities associated with adult wellbeing and protection.
This training includes how to identify concerns, respond to concerns and disclosures and how to create a safe culture within a sports club setting in Scotland.
Suitable for: 16 years + who are involved in delivering or coordinating sporting activities including sports club Wellbeing and Protection Officers (or equivalent) and other committee members in Scotland.
Prerequisites: There are no formal prerequisites to this training.
Delivery: This can be delivered either in person or via a virtual classroom (based on the needs of the learners). Duration 3 hours.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, participants will understand:
- Why we need to safeguard/protect adults in sport and physical activity?
- Adult protection/safeguarding legislation in Scotland
- Role and responsibilities
- Recognised categories of adult abuse
- How to respond to and deal with concerns about adults
- Where to go for further information and advice on safeguarding/protecting adults
This is all underpinned by understanding how we can create a safer culture.
