Out There
sportscotland’s policy statement on sport and physical recreation in the outdoors
Out There (2009) is sportscotland’s policy statement on sport and physical recreation in the outdoors. Out There sets out sportscotland’s position and aspirations on issues considered important and relevant to sport and physical recreation practised in the outdoors.
Out There promotes the need to appreciate and consider sport and recreation interests in the outdoors, and to take a positive approach to their planning, management and provision.
It is hoped that Out There will generate thought and debate, and will inform and encourage the approach of sportscotland’s partners to managing and providing for sport and recreation in Scotland’s outdoors.
The Scottish Outdoor Access Code
Out There explains that we consider access to be fundamental to the practice of sport and recreation in the outdoors. Extensive access rights and responsibilities were enshrined in legislation as part of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003, and sportscotland welcomes these, and the significant opportunities for sport and recreation which they present.
For further information on your access rights and responsibilities when practising sport and recreation in the outdoors, please see the Scottish Outdoor Access Code website:
