What sport are you involved in and what is it you love about it?

I am involved in playing netball - I love netball because you get to work in a team and meet lots of new people who you get to know super well.

What motivated you to be a part of the Young People's Sports Panel?

By seeing the impact that the previous cohorts have made, this motivated me to want to be a part of the panel and I can help to make a positive impact within the country and encourage more young people to take part in sport.

What do you think are (some of) the big challenges facing young people in Scotland?

I think one of the major problems that young people are facing is mental health issues. In the last few years there has been a massive decline in young people's mental health, and this can have a detrimental effect on their lives.

Another big challenge young people face is the problems that follow with social media. Including cyber bullying, low self-esteem but also body image. A rise in social media influencers have led to many young people facing body image issues which can have a negative impact on their mental health.

How do you think sport can help support young people in Scotland?

I think sport can help support young people by providing them a safe environment where they feel that they can express their true selves. It can be an outlet from stress or any worries they may be facing. It’s a great way for young people to make new friends and socialise but also where they can find many people who are willing to listen to any worries and support them.

Is there a role model who inspires you? What is it about them you admire?

One person who has inspired me a lot is ex-Scottish netballer Hayley Mulheron. After an amazing career she became the person that I looked up to. She has been and still is a great support for me as a netballer. Her work ethic and passion for the game is what I admire about her but also how helpful she’s always been to me.
