West Lothian Community Foundation General Manager

West Lothian Community Foundation (WLCF) are looking for a new General Manager to head up a small team of full and part time employees.

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the new General Manager will be at the forefront of the foundations goals to be at the heart of the West Lothian community.

Foundation Overview

WLCF is a registered charity that runs a number of community-based initiatives across West Lothian, primarily focused on youth football, that provide wider benefit for our communities and address local needs.

We deliver initiatives to people of all ages that improve physical health and well-being, tackle poverty, improve education and attainment, support positive mental health, improve socialisation among targeted groups and much more.

Our programs are supported by a range of partners and stakeholders such as the SPFL Trust, Scottish FA, West Lothian Council, Livingston FC and many more.

The foundation would like to expand their operations to provide even more community-based programs, primarily through, but not limited to, football and sport in general. Where possible, the foundation aims to deliver these programs free at the point of delivery or at the lowest possible cost to participants.

General Manager Job Role

The board see the General Manager (GM) role as the key position to drive forward the ambitions of the foundation. Key to the role will be a proven ability to raise funds through grant applications, raising sponsorship from local businesses and community fund raising initiatives.

The GM will also be responsible for all duties related to marketing, social media management, and community outreach to increase visibility and engagement.  They will have the ability to build positive relationships with external partners and agencies that can add value to the delivery of the foundations aims and objectives.

The WLCF manages the community 3G pitch at Almondvale, Livingston, and this facility is the home for many of the organisation’s programs.  Community access to the pitch is also managed by WLCF for many local clubs and organisations and the GM will have overall responsibility to maximise the community benefit for all users.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have the drive and passion to take forward the foundation into the hearts of the West Lothian community.  The foundation is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion, and seek a candidate who aligns with these values.

The new GM will look to forge partnerships and initiatives with the local and community councils, Livingston Football Club, and West Lothian College, as well as schools and sports clubs throughout the region.

The ideal candidate will be a confident speaker and presenter, familiar with grant fund raising and will hold a high level of organisational skills. The ability to communicate with boards, businesses, partners, community members and participants are essential.

General administration experience of running a small team is highly desirable, and the general manager will be expected to ensure that all financial records, bank accounts and invoicing and collection are carried out to a high standard. Whilst aided in these duties, and with future potential to hire an admin assistant, a hands-on approach to these matters may be required. Training will be provided, where appropriate, and there will be additional ongoing opportunities for upskilling and personal development.

There is an obligation to organise and attend trustee board meetings on a minimum of a quarterly basis, and the GM will be expected to produce financial and operational reports prior to these meetings.

Whilst not essential, involvement or experience in sport or football, possibly in a coaching role, is seen as desirable, but secondary to having the right leadership potential for the foundation.  They will oversee a small team of full-time and part-time staff, ensuring that programs are delivered to a high standard and that the WLCF holds a positive profile across the local communities that it supports.

The candidate must be capable of being registered to the Scottish Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme (PVG) and obtaining registration in this matter is mandatory before uptake of the role.

Salary and other Considerations

Salary is in the range of £32,000 to £35,000 based on a 35hr week plus pension.

Whilst many programs are delivered Monday to Friday, evening and weekend work will be required and it is the expectation of the Board that the ideal candidate is a self-starter and capable of their own time management to maximise the goals of the foundation.

The package includes 30 days annual leave that includes 7 public holidays. WLCF often deliver programs during public and school holidays for which time off in lieu (TOIL) is granted, as necessary.

The post-holder may work from home but will often be required to attend meetings with partners across the region as well as working from the Almondvale Community 3G pitch, as required.

Closing Dates and Applications

The closing dates for Applications is 10:00pm on Sunday 14th September. CV’s and a covering letter via email to chairperson@wlcommunityfoundation.org
