Sessional Physiotherapist: Queen's Park FC

The role:

Queen's Park FC is developing our team of sessional physiotherapists to cover evening clinics and weekend matches. We are seeking committed, knowledgeable and motivated physiotherapists with experience in a sporting environment.

The focus of the Medicine, Sports Science and Lifestyle Department is to develop players with exceptional athletic ability, and a high level of availability, who are robust enough to play at the intensity required to perform at the highest level of European football. The successful candidate will, therefore, have the skills, knowledge, competencies, and personality to achieve this and work effectively within the elite football environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Matchday (Each Matchday is 3 hours and begins 1 hour prior to kick off)

  • Provide first aid and pitch side emergency cover for games (home and away).
  • Communicate with Head coach around the status of player availability.
  • Communicate all details surrounding players injury to parents/guardians.
  • Have a knowledge and understanding of all players injury/recovery status prior to the fixture taking place.
  • Record all injuries that occur during the fixture on centralised database.
  • Ensure that all the appropriate medical equipment and apparel is stocked and removed/replaced where necessary.
  • Ensure that all medical equipment is returned and stored correctly.
  • Provide an appropriate hand over post-match.

Academy Clinic

  • Ensure players under your care receive comprehensive, evidence-based medical assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation as instructed by the Lead physiotherapist.
  • Demonstrate excellent clinical reasoning skills when assessing and treating players under your care.
  • Provide first aid and pitch side emergency cover for training.
  • Maintain a detailed, comprehensive, and up-to-date medical profile for each player under your care to assist in identifying areas at high risk of injury.
  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team to design and deliver individualised injury reduction interventions for Academy players, appropriate to the age and developmental stage of the individual.
  • Liaise with the lead Physiotherapist and other members of the Medical, Sports Science, and Lifestyle Department, as well as coaching staff, to provide updates on the injury and treatment status for players under your duty of care.
  • Be involved in the entire process of injury management in the football context, transitioning players from gym-based to pitch-based rehabilitation.
  • Work together with fellow physiotherapists and other members of the Medical, Sports Science and Lifestyle Department to review the efficacy of services and adapt practices, accordingly; ensuring a high-performance environment is always maintained.
  • Undertake the continuous audit and re-audit of player training and match injury trends.
  • Contribute to the development of injury management strategies to create standardised injury rehabilitation and return to play protocols.

Personal

  • Ensure all medical records are maintained and updated to a Health Care Professional Council (HCPC) standard and according to club guidelines and procedures.
  • Maintain an up-to-date and comprehensive continual professional development portfolio.

Other considerations:

  • This role requires you to be available in the evening and at weekends.
  • This role requires flexibility as on occasion working hours may be subject to change with less than 24 hours notice.

Essential Qualifications:

  • BSc Hons/MSc Physiotherapy
  • HCPC Registered
  • CSP Registered
  • Current Pitchside First Aid e,g sports promote
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working in a sports environment
