What’s the role?

We’re committed to ensuring that all children and young people have equal access to a wide range of meaningful experiences, tailored to their individual needs. In this role you will be working as part of our Sports Development Programmes based within our venues across North Lanarkshire in a coaching/teaching role or you will be based within one of our school’s campus’ in a coaching role working alongside teachers from various departments. During this 12-month modern apprenticeship, you will gain experience of working with children and young people and be a part of a strong, established team of coaches or teachers. You will lead and support training sessions and lessons, which are engaging and enjoyable allowing children and young people to achieve their full potential. You will undertake an SCQF Level 6 in Sports Coaching. You will develop working knowledge on how to assist with the planning, organisation and delivery of a range of sports activities, to children and young people with varying skill levels.

You will be supported by our Early Careers Supervisors, a dedicated workplace supervisor and your NLC colleagues who you will be working with during your placement, as well as the support you will receive from your college assessors.

Placements are in the following areas:

  • 1x Swim Teaching
  • 1x Football Coaching
  • 1x Gymnastics Coaching
  • 1x School Sports Coaching

What do I need?

You don’t need to have any previous experience although you should have English and at least three other National 5 level qualification at a Band A - C. Candidates who have successfully completed a relevant Foundation Apprenticeship will also be considered.

We are looking for you to be a dynamic individual and enthusiastic about sport, with a willingness to inspire young people to achieve their full potential during. We look for Apprentices who can help us deliver our exciting ambition and plans for North Lanarkshire. During the selection process we will look for you to demonstrate the key strengths we know you will need to be successful; ambition, determination, adaptability, personality, ownership, be pro-active and show willingness to learn.

In accordance with Government Guidelines, you will need to be aged 16-24 (at the point of starting the apprenticeship) or if you are disabled or care experienced you will need to be aged between 16-29 (at the point of starting the apprenticeship).

This role requires Protection of Vulnerable Group (PVG) Membership in relation to working with children.

These posts are temporary until August 2026.
