About the Role

Scottish Wrestling is seeking a committed and enthusiastic individual to take on the voluntary role of Lead Safeguarding Officer. This role is vital in ensuring that children, young people, and vulnerable adults involved in wrestling are safe, supported, and able to thrive in a positive environment.

As Lead Safeguarding Officer, you will be the key point of contact for safeguarding matters across Scottish Wrestling. You will work with clubs, coaches, volunteers, and external partners to promote best practice and ensure compliance with safeguarding policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead on the effective implementation of safeguarding policies and procedures within Scottish Wrestling.
  • Encourage and embed best safeguarding practice across the sport.
  • Coordinate the monitoring and review of the Safeguarding Policy to ensure it remains current and fit for purpose.
  • Regularly report on child wellbeing and protection progress to the board.
  • Raise awareness of safeguarding roles and responsibilities with children, parents/carers, and adults involved in Scottish Wrestling.
  • Maintain confidential records of wellbeing or protection concerns and actions taken.
  • Liaise with statutory agencies and ensure appropriate information is shared.
  • Support clubs and their Child Protection Officers (CPOs) with safeguarding advice, training, and resources.
  • Challenge poor practice or breaches of the safeguarding code of conduct.
  • Stay up to date with developments in child protection and wellbeing through training, networking, and sector publications.

What we are looking for

Essential

  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
  • Organised, reliable, and able to work independently.

Desirable

  • Experience working or volunteering in a safeguarding role (sport, education, health, or community setting).
  • A keen interest in sport.
  • Familiarity with Scottish safeguarding legislation and policy.
