Western Wildcats is an ambitious hockey club with a long history and strong values providing opportunities for everyone, from recreational through to high performance level hockey. The Club has over 200 junior members aged 5 to 18 supported by a team of coaches and volunteers.
Job Title: Head of Junior Hockey
Responsible for: All junior hockey coaching
Responsible to: Western Wildcats committee
Rate of Pay: Competitive dependent on experience (part time role approx. 4-6hours/week)
Main aim of the role
To enable us to continue to develop juniors of all abilities, thus enabling us to continue to thrive as a leading club within our sport. Our junior training currently takes place on weeknights, but we are considering introducing a Sunday session for the 2025/26 season and the Junior Head Coach will play a key role in developing that offer. Holiday camps take place during weekdays.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Level 1 Hockey Coaching Qualification (or equivalent) (Required or willing to work towards immediately)
- PVG (Check will be completed for successful applicant)
- First Aid Training (Must already have or be willing to undertake)
- GB Safe Hockey (Must already have or be willing to undertake)
- CWPS (Must already have or be willing to undertake)
Main Duties:
- Lead the coordination and delivery of junior hockey throughout the club, working alongside the junior committee.
- Ensure that pitch and coach allocations are planned and communicated effectively to the network of coaches, junior and adult helpers.
- Coach at junior training (specific sessions TBC dependent on candidate).
- Work alongside the coaching team to develop coaching content in line with the club’s vision for junior development, particularly in the younger age groups.
- Ensure that all players, across all abilities, experience a safe, fun and positive environment in which they can all further develop their hockey.
- There is an opportunity for additional income above and beyond a base agreement through organising 1-1s / Small Group sessions, Masterclasses and Camps.
Skills/Qualities Required:
- Excellent coach with experience of young children.
- Understand and follow the principles of the Scottish Hockey Player Pathways.
- Excellent organisation, communication and time keeping.
- Show enthusiasm and positivity to all players of all abilities.
- Continually demonstrate enthusiasm for hockey, teamwork, effort, and integrity.
- Candidates must have the right to work in the UK. The club cannot apply for work permits or visa sponsorship.
