Head of Academy Sports Science: Partick Thistle Youth Academy

The Head of Academy Sports Science will design, implement and deliver an appropriate strength, conditioning and exercise programme for all Academy teams from pre academy/ u11 -u19s. In addition, the Head of Academy Sports Science will establish and deliver a testing programme in line with CAS Criteria. The Head of Academy Sports Science will be responsible for delivering in-house Sports Science training workshops for all Academy Staff.

Duties

Academy Squads

  • Design and deliver a suitable sports science programme for all academy players from Pre Academy and u11 -u19s
  • Mainly working with U19 squad and with Head of Professional Phase.
  • Programme will satisfy all criteria set by Scottish FA CAS
  • Provide players with programmes to assist the transition from Academy to the Partick Thistle first team
  • Deliver Sports Science tests for all teams in line with Scottish FA CAS criteria
  • Enhance a growth & maturation injury prevention programme for players who require extra support.
  • Maintain a data management system for player monitoring for all squads
  • Manage a data flow between on-pitch collection (GPS & Performance Tests) and input to the in-house Partick Thistle Youth Academy App.
  • Ensure all players' injury status is kept up to date through the Academy App.

Sports Science Staff

  • Manage a team of staff & interns (U11-U17)
  • Responsible for ensuring suitably qualified and trained staff are engaged to assist where necessary the delivery of the programmes.
  • Arrange regular in-service Sports Science training for all Academy Staff
  • Ensure the safety of all players if using any equipment during delivery sport science sessions
  • Responsible for training staff on GPS systems and Partick Thistle Youth Academy App operations.
  • Work closely with First Team Head of Sport Science to ensure a smooth transition for U19 players into first team environment - communicating workload and testing results.

Other Duties

  • Work closely with the Academy Physiotherapist to ensure players returning from injury have a rehabilitation programme
  • Deliver workshops for all parents, players, and coaches to enhance the academy understanding of the importance of sport science (nutrition, strength & conditioning, growth & maturation)
  • Attend SFA workshops to enhance understanding of academy sport science and to input interventions to stay up to date with the best practice guidelines from SFA.

Essential - Minimum of Bachelor with honours degree working towards a Masters level (within the first year of appointment providing evidence from University of enrolment) in Physiotherapy, Sports Science or related field with 3 years working experience, or, experience at a similar role

Desirable - UEFA C Licene
